Les rouleaux cylindriques d'un roulement \u00e0 rouleaux crois\u00e9s \u00e9tablissent un contact lin\u00e9aire avec la surface du chemin de roulement. Cette g\u00e9om\u00e9trie unique permet \u00e0 un seul roulement de supporter simultan\u00e9ment de lourdes charges dans toutes les directions - y compris les charges radiales, axiales et de moment - tout en offrant une rigidit\u00e9 3 \u00e0 4 fois sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle des roulements conventionnels. Dans la conception m\u00e9canique traditionnelle, les ing\u00e9nieurs doivent souvent calculer s\u00e9par\u00e9ment la charge radiale perpendiculaire \u00e0 l'arbre et la charge axiale parall\u00e8le \u00e0 l'arbre, ce qui signifie g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement qu'il faut configurer des roulements diff\u00e9rents pour chaque force.
